Ambrosia cake

4 layer ambrosia cake - lemon filling, lemon frosting, fresh raspberries on top.  I used 4 big lemons to make this cake - very yummy!  At the request of the now 4-yr-old birthday girl. 

Undercover

I have seriously been neglecting this blog, but I have been busy!  My printmaking class is awesome and I've been spending a lot of time etching in between classes and a lot of time in the studio and have a really great teacher who is totally happy for us to stay and work for hours after class, too - so it's pretty great.  Here are a couple recent prints I've made.  I am getting really pretty good at wiping these plates, if I do say so myself!  For the little Christmas print below I used a sketch that my daughter did a few years ago.  The print was made with a small zinc plate, hard ground, and acid etching process.  Then I added tone to the plate with aquatint.  It turned out really well when printed with the red.  The white on black print was etched on a plastic plate.  Original sketch also pictured.  And lastly, an etching I did of a previously posted ink illustration.  Also etched on plastic plate, but printed in brown ink, and using venetian paint and chine colle methods.

This is a little 5x7 ink drawing I finished a few days ago - I'm doing a drypoint etching of it as well.  They may both find their way to etsy soon.

It's that time of year again.  These two sweater dresses (size 4-5T and5-6T respectively) will be on Etsy tomorrow (morning?).  More to come!

This cold heart

Here is the first print that I've made from the first plate that I've carved in my printing class.  It's  drypoint - an intaglio printmaking method - in this case, the image was carved onto a small sheet of plexiglass.  I'm pretty pleased with her!  She's currently undergoing a second scratching for added details.  For a brief and semi-accurate description of drypoint, you can look here.

Truffle

It was our ten-year-old daughter who received a kitten for her birthday - but I think Truffle has decided that when our older daughter is busy or out at play, that the other babe of the family is the closest thing to a kitten in the house.  She follows Gigi around mercilessly!
