Last day

This was a quick little sketch I made and etched during class the last day.  I kind of like all the negative space.  It's definitely time to start printing again.

Art blog

Well, more of a gallery really.  I've just barely started putting it together and I'll add a link in the sidebar once I've gotten all of the images uploaded.  The banner below is part of the print I'm currently working on - this one I "painted" with oil-based printing ink- Venetian ink method - as well as watercolor.

Costume party!

I made this poster for Linda's birthday party this weekend.  I didn't have time to make a print, so it ended up being an ink illustration, multiplied on card stock by Staples.  It was too big for my scanner - so that's why it looks a bit off kilter in this photo - it is straight in real life.   

I still don't know who I'm going to be though - which is unlike me, but I was just so busy with the fashion show up until now...  Guess I'll hunt around the thrift store tomorrow and see what I can find.  I'm leaning toward either Elle Driver - because the eye patch makes her so recognizable, or else maybe one of the girls from Four Rooms, or, maybe Shosanna.   

Let's get trashy

Here's my latest print.  It's a pretty simple drypoint that I made for a very limited run of posters and t-shirts for the recycled fashion show in Fortine this coming weekend: Junk to Funk.  I just added a little bit of watercolor to this one.  Turned out pretty cute.

I found a new cowboy

Our band name - a line from an Erin McKeown song.  I etched the plate for this print a few weeks ago and have done a bunch of different versions and am just still not tired of this one, I like it so much!  It's a bigger plate - 11 x 14 - so everything takes longer with it.  I've been doing a lot of chin colle and some Venitian ink and this one - the reason this print looks a bit funky - is because I printed it on white cotton with little white polka dots.  It's an experiment to see how the ink holds up to the wash.  Well, I'm a little hesitant to throw this big print into the washer in the event that the ink does not in fact hold up at all.  So I'll probably do a smaller test print first.  And I'll post some of the paper prints of this soon.

Cut and color

A friend of mine was telling me last night, over fries and cider at the Northern, that I should make a coloring book for junior high age kids.  She said that she still liked to color at that age and that there wasn't anything cool to color - which has changed at this point really, with a variety of fun coloring books on sites like Etsy.  Well, I do have a page of Valentines in the shop now that I hand printed in black and would look quite lovely with some watercolor added by hand.

Yesterday was not my day.  But I'm learning lots of little lessons, and I know that that must be  good!

Busy bee

Well, the grand update didn't quite happen, but I'm thinking of myself more as a busy bee at this point, or possibly, more accurately, a tortoise.  Either way, I'm still working madly at listing new items in the shop - while continuing to get my print order underway, start a couple new classes, feed the children occasionally, do a bit of cleaning, etc. etc. 

Here is one of my favorites that is now in the shop!

January shop update!

I'm planning to do a January shop update/re-opening on Friday, January 15th.  There will be some all new items in the shop this time - including prints, postcards, paper dolls and Valentines!  There will also be original art, clothing, and a few Valentine dolls.  I'm really excited about all of the stuff we'll be listing, and I say we because my ten-year-old daughter is contributing some amazingly adorable little fox Valentines she's been working on.  Here's a sneak preview of one of the paper dolls that will be in the update...
